It's a girl!

Saturday was our long anticipated gender scan at Babybond Glasgow. Our appointment was at 12:40 and because we weren't exactly sure where it was we arrived a bit early: 12:00 to be exact. So we took a walk in Kelvingrove Park. The trees are all starting to change colours and the air was crisp so it was a nice way to spend the time. However, when we went into the office at 12:40 we found out they were running about 30 minutes late. The biggest flaw in their entire setup is the lack of seating. There were 2 two seater sofas and a chair. So we went back outside for while. Eventually, around 1:50ish we were finally called in. The waiting wasn't a big deal for us. We knew they were only running late because babies don't always cooperate and they were doing their best to show the other parents everything they wanted to see. This boded well as it meant they would probably spend additional time with us as well.

The room was lovely and big with a huge flat screen tv on one wall. As an added perk the gel they cover your belly with was even heated! (It's true that you get what you pay for!) On with the scan! Our little one wasn't really cooperating for a nice profile shot but was really keen on showing off her feet!

After getting some adorable foot shots the sonographer decided to get down to business. She asked if we had any ideas and we told her we'd thought it was a boy. She looked a bit concerned and kinda whispered. "I see girl bits." I think she was concerned that we'd be upset! We did our very best to reassure her that we would be thrilled with a girl, just shocked as I'd managed to convince Mark it was a boy. Shows how much I know! She showed us from a few more angles and then went back to trying to get a profile picture. Eventually she suggested that I go for a walk and come back in 15 minutes or so. I knew they were still running late so I suggested that we come back at the end of business because we'd still be in Glasgow. She seemed happy with this and we told her we'd be back after lunch at 4:30.

Off to DiMaggio's for lunch with George and Maureen (Mark's parents). Lunch was yummy and finished up just in time to head back to Babybond. We decided not to tell anyone other than his parents about the gender until after the second scan, just to be doubly sure.

2nd scan! We invited Mark's parents in to watch this one and the sonographer went through and showed them the heartbeat, the stomach, the spine all over again. It was great. She confirmed the gender and tried for another profile picture. Alas our little one was facing my back and making it difficult so I don't have any more pictures of her face. But here's a really cool one of her spine!

So there you have it! It's a girl!! Almost everyone knew it was a girl other than us. We're so excited! We're pretty close to deciding on a name- but we're not going to tell you yet incase we need to change it. ;)

Spurred on by her Aunt Kathryn and Uncle Scott's "Happy Gender Day" purchase for her, Mark and I stopped on the way home and bought a little something pink...

What else would my first purchase be other than SOCKS!! *grins*

  5. Erin - unborn babies everywhere demand socks!! *grins*

Sarah - Something I forgot to mention. The sonographer we had actually works in the maternity unit at Invercylde Hospital most of the time! EEE! We could have been very unlucky and just gotten the same lady from our last scan all over again. On the other hand, if we'd had this lady the first time around I'm sure she would have shown us the gender at the 20 week. People are so random!

Mom - I would have LOVED to have had you there! You can come to American baby's ultrasound one day. :)
